Our long association with nuclear research laboratories has enabled us to build into the basic design of our products features that make them "user friendly" in hot cells, ie:

a: All of our products can be introduced into Hot Cells through standard posting ports.

b: The handles can be easily adapted for operation with standard manipulators

c: The cutting/thinning heads are separated from the control/power supplies which remain outside the cell.

UNIDISC
The standard disc sizes are 1 and 3mm. Discs greater than 1mm and up to 6mm diameter can be produced to special order.

If samples are very radioactive the operator dose can be reduced by producing, from unirradiated stock, a 3mm disc of the metal with a 1mm diameter hole in it. A 1mm diameter disc is then punched from the irradiated sample and press fitted into the hole in the 3 mm disc. The combined 3mm disc is easier to handle than the conventional 2.3mm radioactive disc and can be thinned in the usual way.

When the 1mm diameter active portion has been thinned, its mass can be an order of magnitude less than that of a conventional 2.3mm radioactive disc.

DIAMOND SLITTING SAW
The only permanent connection between the self-contained cutting head unit and the control unit is a single cable. This enables them to be located separately if required.

A special Hot Cell version is available on request. This version is supplied with a PVC base plate for the cutting head to stand on, or be attached to, in the Hot cell. This plate contains a recess for the saw blade and cutting fluid.

LABORATORY SHEAR
Very robust and readily operated using standard manipulators.

SPARK EROSION MACHINE
This comprises two modules; self-contained cutting head in the Hot Cell and an external power supply/control. They are connected by two cables, or three if the dielectric pumping system is purchased. The length of the cables can be any length to suit the purchaser's requirements.

One power supply unit may be used for consecutive operation of several heads in a suite of Hot Cells.

The cutting head contains a dc motor that can be shielded easily with lead sheet, if required.

The spark erosion unit operates well using de-ionised water as the dielectric.

Supplied with a self-contained de-ionised water supply unit and sample holding system. Moving wire cutter available.

DE-IONISED WATER UNIT
This small unit plus a source of ordinary water produces an immediate supply of de-ionised water. A simple connection is made and when the tap is opened de-ionised water flows out.

UNIPUMP
This impeller pump, driven by a 12v dc motor, was developed for use with the Metalthin and for pumping liquid nitrogen. It can also be used for a variety of small volume pumping applications in Hot Cells. The Metalthin power supply, or an independent supply, can be used to operate it.

The motor is easily accessible and can be surrounded by lead sheet.

SEPARATION OF POWER SUPPLY FROM THE OPERATIONAL PARTS OF THE SPARK EROSION MACHINE, METALTHIN, UNIPUMP AND SAWS
If any of this equipment is to go into a Hot Cell, complete separation can be effected. Each item can be supplied with a cable connector box. The leads from the power supply plug into the front of the box and the leads from the operational part plug into the back. The price of connector boxes will depend on what the user requires.
