Spark erosion/electric discharge machining (EDM) using a moving wire electrode is ideal for accurately slitting and slicing all types of specimens. The moving wire helps to clear the slit of debris and is a continuous source of unused electrode material. This combination creates the conditions for producing deep, parallel-sided, narrow slits. In addition to metals, some electrically conducting ceramic materials can be spark eroded.
